According latest news Japan has poised to make history as the first country to transmit solar power from space to Earth
Latest news has it that Japan’s OHISAMA project will beam solar power from space to Earth
source
Sizes of the Test Spacecraft
The test spacecraft, weighing around 400 pounds, features a 22-square-foot solar panel that captures energy and stores it in an onboard battery. To ensure efficient transmission, antennas on Earth will be strategically positioned over a 25-mile radius to account for the spacecraft's high speed.
Space-based solar panels offer a significant advantage: they can collect energy continuously, unaffected by day-night cycles or weather conditions. While challenges persist, Japan's OHISAMA project demonstrates the potential for a future powered by clean energy from space.
OHISAMA PROJECT GOAL
The ultimate goal is to launch massive solar power satellites into geostationary orbit, generating up to 1 gigawatt of clean energy. This would power hundreds of thousands of homes and provide a vital lifeline to disaster zones and remote areas.
