Hello everyone, I hope everything is going well in your life and you are having a wonderful day. Welcome to my Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge post. In this post, I will talk about the New Campaign Mode - Book 1: Waur Medge Academy and my experiences. I hope it will be useful for you.
Campaign Mode was added to Splinterlands on June 3, 2025, and is an interactive PvE game mode where you can start your journey as a fledgling Battle Mage.
Use the Play dropdown to navigate to the Campaign. Click on Campaign in the Play dropdown or click on Play and then Campaign.
In the new Campaign mode, Book 1: Waur Medge Academy is now live and Book 2 is coming soon.
Start your journey in Book 1: Waur Medge Academy and learn, battle and earn, it's that simple.
Book 1 of the campaign mode is intended to introduce new players to Splinterlands and give them Foundations cards and Glint. (Completely free to play). Items can be purchased from the rewards shop with Glint, and Foundations cards can be used in ranked battles.
- Foundations Cards are Soulbound but can only be used in Ranked Battles.
- Foundations Cards are playable in all Modes except Survival Mode.
- Foundations Cards can be used to earn Glint and SPS (if you have SPS in Stake)
- Foundations Cards are not currently burnabl, do not contribute to collection power and provide no production value on land.
And let's click on Book 1: Waur Medge Academy and start the journey.
Book 1: Waur Medge Academy consists of 11 chapters and the first chapter is called Welcome to Waur Medge.
Click on “CH. 1 - Welcome to Waur Medge” to start the first chapter.
Headmaster Bimbelnok welcomes you to Praetoria’s premier academy of battle magic, where legends are born through grit and guile. Will you be one of them?
Welcome to Waur Medge Academy of Battle Magic.
Headmaster Bimbelnok has something to tell you and to advance through the first chapter and read the story you need to click on the arrow in the bottom right corner; or you can click Skip in the top right corner.
I read them all, I recommend you to do the same; And everyone who completes the first chapter will earn Foundations cards and Glint rewards. Here's what I earned.
Click on Claim Rewards to claim your rewards from the first chapter.
I won 1 Aurelia (Archon), 1 Dread Tafarian (Unit) and 100 Glints. The rewards are really cool.
- 1 Aurelia (Archon)
- 1 Dread Tafarian (Unit)
- 100 Glints
On the next screen after claiming the rewards, you can choose either Next Chapter or Chapter Select.
- Next Chapter : Starts the next chapter
- Chapter Select : Navigates to Book 1: Waur Medge Academy page where all chapters appear.
Click Next Chapter or CH. 2 - Card Types (On the Book 1: Waur Medge Academy page) to start Chapter 2.
Professor Flint explains the two types of cards: archons determine your element and strategy; units do the fighting. Learn to wield both with purpose.
Chapter 2 explains the difference between Archons-type cards and Units-type cards;
- There are two types of cards you’ll use when you step into the ring: archons and units.
- Archons are distinguished from units by the triangular symbol at the base of their frame.
- Archons don’t fight. They determine which elements you can summon on your team. Some also grant your units special benefits, while others handicap your opponent’s team.
- Your units, on the other hand, battle the opponent head-on.
The Chapter 2 is both educational and interactive, and it is necessary to enter the arena and battle. Click Enter Arena
Choose Aurelia as your archon by clicking on her.
And then your only unit is Dread Tafarian. Go ahead and add him to your team.
The team is ready and it's showtime. Tap BATTLE and head into the arena.
And click BATTLE to start the action
I won the battle on my first try, and completed Chapter 2.
And claim your rewards;
I completed the Chapter 2 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Mad Gearhead (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Click Next Chapter or CH. 3 - Melee Attacks (On the Book 1: Waur Medge Academy page) to start Chapter 3.
Chapter 3 talks about Melee Attacks;
As a rule of thumb, units can only use melee attacks from the first position. However, unlike thumbs, rules of thumb are made to be broken. But for now, let’s focus on the basics.
The number on the attack icon is the card’s power, which is subtracted from the target’s health after a successful attack.
Now we have 3 Foundations Cards and to use them in battle, click Enter Arena
Choose Aurelia as your archon by clicking on her.
As described above, put Dread Tafarian in the first position and Mad Gearhead in the second position.
And click BATTLE to start the action..
And if you have completed Chapter 3, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 3 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Wilhelmdale Deputy (Unit)
- 100 Glints
The chapters are incredibly easy to complete and the rewards are really cool, I have explained 3 chapters in detail but I won't go over the same things again in the other chapters, if you have any questions please see above or ask me.
Click Next Chapter or CH. 4 - Ranged Attacks (On the Book 1: Waur Medge Academy page) to start Chapter 4.
Chapter 4 talks about Ranged Attacks;
Most ranged units can't attack from the first position. Put them in the back—unless watching them get pummeled is part of your strategy.
Your opponent’s attacks usually target your first position, so it’s best to fill it with a tank—a unit with some survivability. If your tank is defeated, your other units move forward. And since ranged attackers can’t attack from the first position, they belong in the very back. That way, they’ll continue to attack until every unit in front of them is destroyed.
BATTLE
- Units with Ranged Attacks cannot attack from the first position, but if they have the Close Range Ability they can attack from the first position. That's why I put Wilhelmdale Deputy in the last position.
if you have completed Chapter 4, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 4 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Kicking Roc (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 5 explains Armor
Armor absorbs damage from melee and ranged attacks, protecting the unit’s health. Use it to outlast your opponent.
Melee and ranged attacks damage armor first, and until its armor is destroyed, the target’s health is unaffected—even if damage dealt exceeds remaining armor.
For example, if a unit has 2 armor and takes 4 damage, its armor will be gone, but the extra damage won’t affect its health.
BATTLE
Armor is very useful in battles and putting armored units in the right position will be very useful. I put Dread Tafarian in the first position because he has 1 armor for 6 health.
if you have completed Chapter 5, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 5 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Barthalamas (Archon)
- 1 Chaos Furybringer (Unit)
- 1 Frankarsgard (Unit)
- 1 Sturdy Axe Warden (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 6 explains Speed
Speed affects attack order and hit chance. Faster units act first and dodge more often. Slower ones risk missing entirely.
- Speed not only determines which units takes their turn first, but it also decreases the accuracy of melee and ranged attacks. Each point difference decreases accuracy by 10%.
- For example, A melee attacker with a speed of 2 attacking a target with a speed of 5 has a 5 - 2 = 30% chance to miss. And no matter how powerful, a card that’s defeated—or one that misses its target—deals no damage, making speed incredibly important.
BATTLE
I put Frankarsgard in the first position because it has 1 Armor and 7 health, Chaos Furybringer in the second position, and Sturdy Axe Warden in the last position because it has ranged attacks. And the battle was a good example of how important speed is in battles.
if you have completed Chapter 6, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 6 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Marlai Singariel (Archon)
- 1 Port Guardian (Unit)
- 1 Spitting Camel (Unit)
- 1 Water-Logged Wizard (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 7 explains Magic Attacs
Magic attacks break all the rules. Normally, they can be used from any position, ignore armor, and never miss. They’re subtle. Like a fireball to the face.
Unlike melee and ranged attacks, units can use magic attacks from anywhere—the first position, the last position, and everywhere in between. And everything you learned about armor and speed’s chance to miss? When it comes to magic attacks, you can forget all that. Magic attacks ignore armor, and they never miss.
BATTLE
I put Port Guardian in the first position because it has 2 Armor and 8 health, Water-Logged Wizard in the second position, and Spitting Camel in the last position because it has ranged attacks.
Strategy is also very important in battles.
if you have completed Chapter 7, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 7 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Ember Roast Sow (Unit)
- 1 Ash Archer (Unit)
- 1 Echelon (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 8 explains Abilities
Ready to take things to the next level? Professor Montclair introduces the basics of abilities, which shape your strategy and unlock your cards’ full potential.
- Abilities are special traits that can turn the tide of almost any battle. They provide your team with unique benefits or inflict harmful effects on your opponent’s team.
- For example, units with Sneak will target the enemy unit in the last position—that includes melee units, which normally can only attack from the first position.
- However, all units in the first position will almost always attack the enemy unit in the first position, even if they have Sneak or other targeting abilities.
- For a description of all abilities sorted by category, check out the Abilities Categorical Breakdown article on our support site. Be sure to bookmark it for easy reference!
BATTLE
I put Frankarsgard in the first position because it has 1 Armor and 7 health, Chaos Furybringer in the second position because it has Reach ability, Echelon in the fourth position, Ember Roast Sow in the fourth position, Sturdy Axe Warden in the fifth position, and Ash Archer in the last position. As I mentioned above, I put Units with Ranged attack(s) in the last positions since they cannot attack in the first position.
if you have completed Chapter 8, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 8 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;
- 1 Incessant Sage (Archon)
- 1 Twice Yester Knight (Unit)
- 1 Paprikash (Unit)
- 1 Codex Sage (Unit)
- 1 Sherringham Logger (Unit)
- 1 Hungry Ulund (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 9 explains Mana
Professor Graystone shows you how to balance power and efficiency, building teams that make every point of mana count.
Every card has a mana cost associated with it. Cards with higher mana costs are generally more powerful than those with lower mana costs, so it’s usually best to use as much available mana as possible.
BATTLE
When you're matched with an opponent, you'll see their recently played teams, a timer, and the battle rules. For now, the timer is disabled so you can focus on learning how to play without racing against the clock.
I put Twice Yester Knight in the first position because it has 3 Armor and 4 health, Sherringham Logger in the second position because it has Sneak ability.
if you have completed Chapter 9, you can claim your rewards.
I completed Chapter 9 and claimed my rewards; the rewards I got are as follows;

- 1 Arcane Curator (Unit)
- 1 Black Widow (Unit)
- 1 Spinetail Fiend (Unit)
- 1 Grand Consul Minion (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 10 explains Elements
While your archon determines which elements you can use, the battle rules may impose further limits. Master every element so you’re ready for anything.
- While your archon’s element determines which units you can play, the battle rules can further restrict the use of certain elements. Win or lose, each time you face off against an opponent, you’ll increase your understanding of the strengths, weaknesses, and winning strategies of each element.
- Cards without an element are neutral. You can use neutral units regardless of the element of your archon.
BATTLE
There are six elements: fire, water, earth, life, death, and dragon. Hover over each icon to see which is which (or tap on them if you're on mobile). For this battle, only the death and life elements are available.

- 1 Vengeful Monk (Unit)
- 1 Spellmonger (Unit)
- 100 Glints
Chapter 11 explains Modifiers
Modifiers can limit your cards, add or remove abilities, harm your units, and more. Victory depends on how quickly you adapt.
- The battle rules include modifiers that alter gameplay by limiting the cards you can use, modifying abilities, damaging units, and more. They can dramatically influence what cards you should play; you’ll have to adapt your tactics on the fly to pull of a win.
- At first, your battles will all have the Standard modifier, which doesn’t change any rules or mechanics. But as you advance, you’ll not only see different modifiers, but more of them—up to three per battle.
- For a description of all modifiers, check out the List of Combat Modifiers article on our support site. Be sure to bookmark it for easy reference!
