Today I'm taking you with me on one of my trips these days, lately also thanks to the sultry heat, my husband and I when we have free time prefer to go for long walks and picnics in the wooded areas, rather than find ourselves in the chaos of the supermarket. One of these areas particularly loved by us but not very well known and frequented is the beautiful and large Riserva naturale dell'acquerino, a natural oasis on the border between the mountains of Pistoia and Prato, it is about an hour from my house and to reach it you take a very beautiful panoramic road that I talked about in a post of mine a few days ago, a road full of curves and beautiful mountain views that make you enjoy the journey even if it is long. The reserve is really large, hectares and hectares of woodland, divided into several hamlets. The first one we visited is called Cascine di Spedaletto right at the beginning of the reserve, this is a very popular place in the summer because it is in the mountains and it is cold and in fact even though it was daytime my husband and I both had on sweaters and long trousers because even though it was sunny the climate at 900 metres is still quite cool, too much to stay in a vest. As soon as we arrived we immediately parked our beloved landrover (perfect for travelling through the woods and dirt roads) along the road in a special space. Also enjoying the view because this space gives on a beautiful view of the mountains.

Últimamente, debido al calor sofocante, mi marido y yo, cuando tenemos tiempo libre, preferimos dar largos paseos y hacer picnics en las zonas boscosas, en lugar de encontrarnos en el caos del supermercado. Una de estas zonas, que nos encanta, pero no es muy conocida ni frecuentada, es la hermosa y extensa Reserva Natural del Acquerino, un oasis natural en la frontera entre las montañas de Pistoia y Prato. Está a aproximadamente una hora de mi casa y para llegar se toma una carretera panorámica muy bonita de la que hablé en una publicación mía hace unos días. Una carretera llena de curvas y hermosas vistas a las montañas que te hacen disfrutar del viaje, incluso si es largo. La reserva es realmente extensa, con hectáreas y hectáreas de bosque, dividida en varias aldeas. El primero que visitamos se llama Cascine di Spedaletto, justo al principio de la reserva. Es un lugar muy popular en verano porque está en la montaña y hace frío. De hecho, aunque era de día, mi marido y yo llevábamos suéteres y pantalones largos, ya que, aunque hacía sol, el clima a 900 metros seguía siendo bastante fresco, demasiado para ir en chaleco. En cuanto llegamos, aparcamos nuestro querido Land Rover (perfecto para atravesar bosques y caminos de tierra) junto a la carretera en un espacio especial. Disfrutamos también de la vista, ya que desde allí se podía contemplar una hermosa vista de las montañas.
Then we continued through a very large forest made of very tall trees, I think beech trees, an almost magical place, it seems to have come out of some film or fantasy series, wherever you turn there is a brown blanket on the ground and very tall trees with branches that cover the sky and make it almost dark, undoubtedly they are certainly cool. This reserve is one of the most beautiful and large of the two regions, it extends over the mountains of Prato and Pistoia and over the entire Bisenzio valley. It also contains a great biodiversity of both fauna and flora species. When I was little, I often came here with my grandparents and parents, it is a place that always relaxes me a lot and brings back beautiful memories. Visiting it all is a feat but we hope to be able to visit it all by choosing a different area on each of our next visits. At a certain point among the bushes we found a farmhouse used as a restaurant open only a few days a year and only in the summer, but it is close to a large field where we decided to make our base, put blankets, backpacks and food there and then set off from there for our exploratory walk.
This reserve is a truly magnificent place, not by chance, and it is a protected reserve and an area considered heritage of the two regions, there is much to explore, a lot and we have only seen the beginning. Luego continuamos a través de un bosque enorme de árboles altísimos, creo que hayas. Un lugar casi mágico, parece salido de una película o serie de fantasía. Mires donde mires, hay un manto marrón en el suelo y árboles altísimos con ramas que cubren el cielo y lo hacen casi oscuro. Sin duda, son realmente frescos. Esta reserva es una de las más hermosas y extensas de las dos regiones; se extiende por las montañas de Prato y Pistoia y por todo el valle de Bisenzio. También alberga una gran biodiversidad de especies de fauna y flora. De pequeña, solía venir aquí con mis abuelos y padres; es un lugar que siempre me relaja mucho y me trae hermosos recuerdos. Visitarlo todo es una hazaña, pero esperamos poder recorrerlo todo eligiendo una zona diferente en cada una de nuestras próximas visitas. En un punto determinado entre los arbustos encontramos una masía utilizada como restaurante abierta sólo unos días al año y sólo en verano, pero está cerca de un gran campo donde decidimos hacer nuestra base, poner allí mantas, mochilas y comida y luego partir desde allí para nuestra caminata exploratoria.
Esta reserva es un lugar verdaderamente magnífico, y no es casualidad. Es una reserva protegida y un área considerada patrimonio de ambas regiones. Hay mucho por explorar, muchísimo, y solo hemos visto el principio.
