Naturally, parents love their children and will keep making efforts to see that their children are okay. Even parents with autistic children and other severe health challenges in children show a lot of care, love, and energy in protecting their child , making sure that nothing harms them. It doesn't matter if that child has issues or any sort of birth defects; the love is simply natural.
Now, imagine having an opportunity to modify the gene of a baby before he or she is born, having an opportunity to choose the gifts and talents the baby has, and removing all traces of defects to ensure a perfect baby? It's actually a tempting advancement if technology should get to that point. A lot of parents might just be tempted to grab it. If prospective parents have such an opportunity to change the genes of their babies, it would definitely bring a lot of improvement into the family. You can sit down and design what talent you want your child to possess. You can decide on any crazy gift that would make your child great and design him or her to possess such a gift and be perfect. You can just, in advance, eliminate any possible health challenges in the lives of your unborn baby and enjoy peace of mind. Awww, who wouldn't want such a soft kind of life?
Personally , I have undergone a series of pressures this morning before my son's health later got stabilized and I got my peace back. It's been like this since 5 years ago, and a lot of times, I wished I could remove this health issue from him while I was pregnant because the whole trouble started during my pregnancy but later manifested after the birth of my child. I would have loved to remove such issues and enjoy peace of mind, but should humans have that much control over life? Would that be right? Would it be ethical too?
I feel that if things unfold this way with time, then life becomes balanced with perfect children that would grow into perfect adults dominating our world, which isn't the way God designed it to be. In fact, life will lack excitement. No effort to achieve a set goal and celebrate a milestone? Things will just be at a plata of gold and so boring for real. Above all, it will look as if we are playing God, whereas God said that everything he created is good and perfect.
I understand that there is always room for development and advancement in diverse areas of human life, which we have been exhibiting today with tech devs, but when it has to alter God's plan for us, God's creatures , then we are going extreme, and it doesn't feel good in my opinion.
Again, the question of if it's ethical; imagine if only the wealthy ones can afford such gene modification and have a perfect baby; what about those that can't afford it? What about the so-perfect children mixing up with the imperfect ones? Obviously the society will be divided, and of course chaos will be knocking, social inequality, name it. Overall, it's ethically disturbing.
In conclusion , as much as gene modification, choosing gifts, and talents would bring improvement in the lives of children , removing health challenges and all that, I feel we shouldn't strive for perfection but accept the uniqueness of life , journey with our children, and nurture them for who they are. Life will be more exciting, natural, and lively, that way!...
