Yesterday I decided to get out of the routine and leave behind the places where I normally do street photography. I went for something different, something with a different vibe.
With this heat melting us, many local guys go to cool off at an old platform in the bay, where they used to unload oil from ships. A place full of rusted iron and cement and now converted, by themselves, in a kind of improvised public swimming pool.
So I went there, camera in hand, accompanied by some fellow photographers. How could I define the atmosphere? Well, authentic, raw and human, what more could I ask for.

Ayer decidí salirme un poco de la rutina y dejar atrás los sitios donde normalmente hago street photography. Me lancé a buscar algo distinto, algo con otro aire.
Con este calor que nos derrite, muchos chicos de la zona se van a refrescar a una antigua plataforma en la bahía, donde antes descargaban petróleo de los barcos. Un lugar lleno de hierro oxidado y cemento y ahora convertido, por ellos mismos, en una especie de piscina pública improvisada.
Así que hasta allá me fui, cámara en mano, acompañado de algunos colegas fotógrafos. ¿Cómo podría definir el ambiente? Pues auténtico, crudo y humano que más podía pedir.
Although extremely dangerous for me the place was extremely dangerous these guys had an ability to dodge danger that all the time took my breath away.
Aunque para mi extremadamente peligroso el sitio, estos chicos tenían una capacidad para esquivar el peligro que todo el tiempo me dejaba sin aliento.
Through this opening in the ground and badly clinging to some irons, they were thrown into the sea, like something out of a horror movie.
Por esta apertura en el suelo y malamente agarrado de unos hierros se lanzaban al mar, como salido de una película de terror.
It seemed like a challenge to see who could do the riskiest thing.
Aquello parecía un reto para ver quién hacía lo más arriesgado.
I think this was one of the most extreme sessions I've done so far. But it was totally worth it to get out of my comfort zone, look at the city from another angle, and literally soak myself in a different reality. Besides, I learned a lot, especially from the colleagues who accompanied me, with more experience in this kind of scenarios.

Creo que esta ha sido una de las sesiones más extremas que he hecho hasta ahora. Pero valió totalmente la pena salir de mi zona de confort, mirar la ciudad desde otro ángulo, y empaparme —literalmente— de una realidad distinta. Además, aprendí muchísimo, sobre todo de los colegas que me acompañaron, con más experiencia en este tipo de escenarios.
¿Y ustedes, se animarían a ir a refrescarse allá?
