So, last Saturday we had our hangout as usual, and it was just so much fun we did not want it to end. We are currently on the second topic for this week, which is “READING YOUR MIND”.
But before we proceed with the details of the topic, let us take a look at the winners of the last topic, which was “SOCIAL MEDIA AND POLITICS”.
This topic was geared toward each member of the community telling us about the effects social media has had on the politics that go on in their nation. From both positive to negative, social media is no doubt, a major staple in the politics of most nations.
We got to see that there were varied impacts of this. With the government taking stringent measures as they tried to influence even the things posted on social media, while also using the platforms to spread only information they deem worth it. Social media has come to be a double-edged sword, working in favor of the people while also working against it. It was an enlightening topic, indeed.
For this topic, we went through every entry post, and that is every post with the #hl-exclusive & #hl-w162e1 tag. And with the number of wonderful posts out there, it was quite difficult to make a selection. But eventually, we did just that. And so, the posts that will be featured not just for their exceptional content, but also for their level of engagement with other authors, will be listed below.

This author told us that with everyone now on social media, and it being a possible tool for propaganda, it was so easy for anyone to get lost in all the noise. Distinguishing fact from fiction can be difficult, and social media can be one place where if care is not taken, it could turn our lives upside down.

For this author, she told us that thanks to the ability of social media to disseminate information to millions within minutes, it will always be a valuable tool in the hands of politicians. With each passing day, politicians rely more and more heavily on it to canvass for votes. However, the ease with which fake news can be spread is one of the major downsides to this.

For this author, with his country currently approaching the next national election, he’s getting to see just what kind of impact social media is having in the political space. Social media has brought about a number of radical changes, some of which are good and others which aren’t. Despite all the benefits, social media still poses a level of risk.
