My mum loves taking us out for High Tea when we are visiting... and pretty much any excuse will do! So, this time, the excuse was my wife's birthday... and this time, a different place for high tea! We are sort of going through the various options... and this one had less of a view than the last time (up on a revolving restaurant...), but that sort of meant that the food was several notches better!
And so, here was high tea at the Hearth attached to the Ritz Carlton on the Perth foreshore!
The Space
.... okay, this place smacks of fancy from everywhere! Still, the staff were really nice... and most of the people were more "normal" than the ones who went to the revolving place. That place really smacked of high-class debutantes having high tea with their lady friends.... this was much less that sort of feeling! Despite the decor...
The Menu
... and there were quite a few interesting things on the menu for the high tea platters. 4 savoury and 4 sweets... and for the "kids" high tea, there was 2 savoury and 3 sweets. More than enough for kids! Plus unlimited drinks... teas, coffees, hot chocolates, juice...
Of course, at 87 dollars a person for the tea/coffee version (not champagne...) it is a pretty pricey afternoon tea!
... but the kids a la carte menu did look pretty damn good! And much better priced...
The Food
So, the savoury dishes first... I won't go through the things in order, as they were on the menu list above. Lots of tasty morsels... and the croquette was my favourite, and also the favourite of my oldest. Meanwhile, my wife preferred the quiche tart. All of us were not so fond of the prawns... except my little one, who loves those fish eggs.
I probably should go more for tea when doing high tea... but for some reason, I just don't. And I end up drinking waaayyyyy too much coffee instead. Okay, next time... peppermint tea or Rooibos is the way to go...
Now, the desserts were the real highlight of this high tea! Amazing stuff... the favourite of the kids were the egg looking ones, mango and white chocolate... meanwhile, my wife and I were fans of the one on the top... the coconut, white chocolate, and coffee on a crunchy biscoff base.
And some top class scones... crispy on the outside, and soft in the middle... with superb cream and jam. Well, the jam was more like a berry puree than a proper jam... I liked it, but the others said that they would have preferred jam!
... and it is easter, so some nice hot cross buns with a nice sticky honey glaze on them!
Ah yes, and a little birthday plate for my wife!
I do hate to say it, but these chicken nuggets and chips were actually my favourite of the lot! The "nuggest" were more like Japanese Karaage chicken.... and if you have ever had that, well... those are the BEST types of friend chicken... bar NONE! And to get these as a kids meal... TOP!!!
The Experience
A high tea is always going to be a very rich (wallet... and stomach) dining experience... it is something that is supposed to be done over a couple of hours so that you don't end up too bloated... and this one was one of the best that I've had! Food was amazingly good, as were the drinks... and the service was really nice and friendly.
As I had mentioned before, I preferred this over the slightly snooty other place.
