It's been many years since I last typed, perhaps since the 1990s, when our first computer arrived at home. Since then, the old typewriter, which had been a faithful companion of studies and schoolwork was kept as a family heirloom. I never imagined that I would ever feel the click-clack of its keys again, much less that I would use it again to participate in a tournament.
The experience was simply wonderful. I participated in the typewriter writing tournament organized by the Participation Library, on the occasion of the celebration of the Book and Language Day. As soon as I heard about the activity, something inside me ignited: a mixture of nostalgia, excitement and curiosity prompted me to sign up. Later, in another post I want to tell you a little about the tournament, my participation and the results.

Hace muchos años que no escribía en máquina, quizás desde los años 90, cuando en casa llegó nuestra primera computadora. Desde entonces, la vieja máquina de escribir, que había sido una fiel compañera de estudios y tareas escolares quedó guardada como una reliquia familiar. Nunca imaginé que volvería a sentir el clic-clac de sus teclas, ni mucho menos que volvería a usarla participando en un torneo.
La experiencia fue sencillamente maravillosa. Participé en el torneo de escritura en máquinas de escribir organizado por la Biblioteca de la Participación, con motivo de la celebración del Día del Libro y del Idioma. Apenas escuché sobre la actividad, algo dentro de mí se encendió: una mezcla de nostalgia, emoción y curiosidad me impulsó a inscribirme. Luego, en otra publicación quiero contarles un poco sobre el torneo, mi participación y los resultados.

When I arrived and saw those machines lined up, each with its own history, I felt like time was going backwards. Some were older than others, but all had that special analog charm. I got a Silver Reed 750, yellow, beautiful, well preserved and the best ally to participate in the tournament.
Typing is a challenge I had forgotten. Every mistake involves creativity to correct on the fly, and that gives a different flavor to the process. The challenge was fun, challenging and above all enriching.
In addition to the tournament, we shared stories, laughs and anecdotes with other participants, each with their own special connection to these machines. It was a feast for the soul, a very special way to pay homage to words, books and language.
I am grateful for this beautiful gift that the library gave us.
Al llegar y ver aquellas máquinas alineadas, cada una con su historia, sentí que el tiempo retrocedía. Algunas eran más antiguas que otras, pero todas tenían ese encanto especial de lo analógico. Me tocó una Silver Reed 750, amarilla, hermosa, bien conservada y la mejor aliada para participar en el torneo.
Escribir a máquina es un reto que había olvidado. Cada error implica creatividad para corregir sobre la marcha, y eso le da un sabor distinto al proceso. El reto fue divertido, desafiante y sobre todo enriquecedor.
Además del torneo, compartimos historias, risas y anécdotas con otros participantes, cada quien con su conexión especial con estas máquinas. Fue una fiesta para el alma, una manera muy especial de rendir homenaje a las palabras, a los libros y al idioma.
Agradezco este regalo tan hermoso que nos dio la biblioteca.
