Chyba jest już naszą rodzinną tradycją, że jak jedziemy do zoo lub jakiejś zwierzęcej zagrody, to musi koniecznie lać strugami deszczu :) nie ma innej opcji. I tak było tej soboty, kiedy to rodzinnie, wraz z wujaszkami, pojechaliśmy do Opola zwiedzić tamtejsze zoo.
I think it's our family tradition that when we go to the zoo or some animal enclosure, it has to be pouring with rain :) there's no other option. And that's what happened this Saturday, when we went to Opole as a family, with the uncles, to visit the local zoo.
Jak tę wizytę ocenił wujaszek - no leje, ale przynajmniej ludzi mało i zwierząt też mało. Sporo okazów chowało się bowiem przed deszczem. Ale nie wszystkie i coś tam jednak udało się obejrzeć. Wizytę zaczęliśmy od obejrzenia treningu medycznego uszatki. Fajne :)
How did one uncle evaluate this visit - well, it's pouring, but at least there are few people and animals. Quite a few specimens were hiding from the rain. But not all of them, and we managed to see some. We started the visit by watching a medical training of a long-eared owl. Cool :)
W sumie to ze wszystkich zwierząt najbardziej urzekły mnie goryle - co za masa mięśni! oraz gibon, który wdzięcznie się do nas gibał.
In fact, of all the animals, I was most fascinated by the gorillas - what a mass of muscles! and the gibbon that gracefully danced towards us.
Śliczne były czerwone ibisy.
The red ibises were beautiful.
Ogólne wrażenie zoo było bardzo fajne. Miłe miejsce na spacer. Sporo naprawdę fajnych placów zabaw, aż by kusiło zrobić przerwę na ławeczce, żeby dzieci się pobawiły, gdyby nie to, że owe ławeczki i place zabaw tego dnia tonęły w wodzie.
The overall impression of the zoo was very nice. A nice place to walk. A lot of really nice playgrounds, it would be tempting to take a break on a bench to let the kids play, if it weren't for the fact that the benches and playgrounds were drowning in water that day.
Ostatnio w zoo byliśmy we wrześniu 2023 i tam zrobiliśmy sobie rodzinne zdjęcie z żyrafą. Dzidzia też już była, choć schowana w moim brzuchu ;) chciałam teraz zrobić powtórkę, ale jako że żyrafy chowały się przed deszczem - przyznam się bez bicia, że bezczelnie ją domalowałam :d
The last time we were at the zoo was in September 2023, and we took a family photo with a giraffe there. The baby was there too, although hidden in my belly ;) I wanted to do it again now, but since the giraffes were hiding from the rain - I will admit that I shamelessly added it :d
Ze wszystkich zwierząt najbardziej zadowolone z tej pogody były zdecydowanie łosie i hipcie.
Of all the animals, the ones most happy with the weather were definitely the moose and hippos.
Hipcie w opolskim zoo niestety są tylko karłowate. Był prawdziwy, duży. Z tego co wyczytałam w odmętach internetu, został on porwany przez powódź, jaka miała miejsce w 1997. Biedak chyba tego nie przeżył.
Swoją drogą w zoo są słupki, upamiętniające tę fatalną powódź. Pokazują, jak wysoko sięgała woda. Jest to przerażające, bo uzmysławia, jak wiele zwierząt zostało uwięzionych pod wodą.
Hippos in the Opole zoo are unfortunately only dwarf ones. He was a real one, big. From what I've read in the depths of the internet, he was carried away by the flood that took place in 1997. The poor thing probably didn't survive that. By the way, there are posts in the zoo commemorating that fatal flood. They show how high the water reached. It's terrifying because it shows how many animals were trapped under the water.
Mogliśmy się trochę ogrzać i osuszyć w akwarium i tam też spędziliśmy sporo czasu, podziwiając wspaniałe podwodne światy.
We were able to warm up and dry off a bit in the aquarium and spent a lot of time there, admiring the wonderful underwater worlds.
Bardzo mi się też spodobała instalacja mrówkowa. Ta odmiana mrówek hoduje sobie grzyba i znosi mu liście, żeby go karmić. A potem sobie tego grzyba zjada. Wokół całego pomieszczenia biegną takie rurki, w których widać pędzące tam i z powrotem mróweczki.
I also really liked the ant installation. This type of ant grows a fungus and brings leaves to feed it. And then eats the fungus. There are tubes running around the entire room, in which you can see the ants scurrying back and forth.
Tu poniżej jedna ściana tego pomieszczenia. Z górnej komory po prawej stronie pobierają liście i pędzą do tej dużej komory, ale muszą się naprawdę nadreptać wokół całego pomieszczenia, nie mają tak blisko jak na zdjęciu. Dolna komora po prawej stronie to mrówczy śmietnik - tam wynoszą odpadki.

Here below is one wall of this room. They take leaves from the upper chamber on the right and rush to this large chamber, but they really have to crawl around the entire room, they are not as close as in the picture. The lower chamber on the right is the ants' garbage bin - that's where they take out the waste.

Polubiłam też żaby pomidorowe - poniżej. Bo lubię żaby, i lubię pomidory, hehe.
I also liked tomato frogs - below. Because I like frogs, and I like tomatoes, hehe.
Na koniec wycieczki wjechaliśmy do skąpanego w deszczu centrum Opola, by wstąpić do Manekina na słynne naleśniki. Kurczę, tyle co raptem 3 lata temu pisałam o tym, czy warto stać godzinę w kolejce po naleśniki - [PL / ENG] Czekaliśmy na naleśniki godzinę! (Żebyście Wy nie musieli?) / We waited for the pancakes for an hour!. A tu znowu ta sama historia :D wielka kolejka na zewnątrz i w środku, ogólnie spędziliśmy tam stanowczo za dużo czasu. Było owszem pysznie, ale dajcie spokój. Jak otwierać knajpę w tym kraju to chyba tylko naleśnikarnię, taki wielki na to popyt jak widać.
At the end of the trip we drove into the rain-soaked center of Opole to stop by Manekin for the famous pancakes. Damn, I wrote only 3 years ago about whether it's worth standing in line for an hour for pancakes - [PL / ENG] We waited for the pancakes for an hour! (So you don't have to?). And here we go again, the same story :D a huge line outside and inside, overall we spent way too much time there. It was delicious, but come on. If you're going to open a restaurant in this country, it's probably just a pancake house, there's such a huge demand for it, as you can see.
Śmiesznie, bo na zewnątrz w tym deszczu były targi książki i ogromne kolejki, pewnie do pisarzy. Mignął mi widok jakiejś dziewczyny z nową książką Gortycha i mówię, hej, może on tam jest? Zerknęłam na jego relację na fejsiku, ale nie, pokazywał, że jest w Poznaniu, też na jakimś evencie. A po powrocie zerknęłam znowu i chyba jednak się przetransportował do tego Opola bo jak najbardziej tam był - i cieszył się ogromną kolejką. Cóż, ja i tak z dziećmi po całym dniu w ulewie tam bym nie stała :)
Funny, because outside in the rain there was a book fair and huge queues, probably for writers. I caught a glimpse of some girl with a new book by Gortych and I said, hey, maybe he's there? I glanced at his Facebook story, but no, it showed that he was in Poznań, also at some event. And after returning I glanced again and I think he had transported himself to Opole because he was definitely there - and he was enjoying the huge queue. Well, I wouldn't stand there with my kids in the downpour after a whole day anyway :)
